Today, he opened up the drawer in the coffee table in our bonus room and pulled out the papers inside while saying "Uh Oh!".
He likes to gather up all of his cars, trains, trucks, airplanes and boats and then push them down his slide.
He likes to throw himself onto his beanbag chair.
He loves "Little Einsteins" and will pat his hands on his lap and then raise his arms to help rocket blast off!!
He likes to run his cars and trains on my legs, tables, his floor mat with tracks and arm rests. He likes to carry a train in each hand and play with them for long periods of time.
He had his check up on Tuesday and was 25 lbs 7 oz (50-75th %ile) and 31 1/2 inches tall (50th %ile).
He has been tugging on my pant legs and saying "pup pup" and asking for me to pick him up.
Not so cute: he has been experimenting with banging his head everywhere from the coffee table edge (ouch), the carpet, floor, walls, driveway (ouch again) and learning that it doesn't get him attention which has helped abate this activity somewhat.
William likes to pet Ivan while on car rides, especially when he is falling asleep in his car seat.
He likes to lay on Rowan and then pull his and Ivan's tails.
William is already very attached to Ivan and my mother and asks for them when they are in a different room.
He likes to say "Hi-uh" when playing with phones. He also likes to mimic me with his toothbrush and hairbrush.
He will stick out his feet and arms and legs to help me dress him.

Auntie Holly

Hard to believe that this picture was taken over a year ago. Today was a busy day around here. In the AM, William and I went to a park and he enjoyed swinging and sliding until it got too windy and cold to stay outside anymore. Then we (my mom, William and I) drove around the neighborhood and explored the new housing developments in our area. During our drive, William fell fast asleep and that was it for his nap for the day. Any mommy reading those words knows what that means. Read: A cranky toddler.
After that we ran a few errands and found a couple sweet deals for next winter at the Hanna Andersson outlet. On our way home, we got a call from Autumn inviting us over for a play date so we headed over and had a fun time despite two very tired and cranky non-napped toddlers.
Tomorrow, Andrew has his first day back at work and William has his postponed 15 month check up.
We had some good news today: My mom doesn't need to have shoulder surgery!! Hooray hooray. We are all very relieved that she won't have to go through the long and difficult recovery afterwards!!
I have pretty much made up my mind that it isn't really the right time for me to leave William and return to work, but it's so hard to pass up such a good opportunity to keep up my nursing skills/experience and make some extra dough. This has been one of the most difficult decisions I have had to make in a very long time. Really it comes down to my not being ready to hand over William's care to someone else, even if that someone is my own mother. I can't stand the idea of missing out on William's 17, 18, 19...etc. month old self, even if it is only for 3 days a week. I know I can't get those days back in the future, but I can always get a job as a nurse. Maybe I'm just being too sentimental, but my gut says to stay home and enjoy taking care of William while he is still little.

25 Things About William
Cute things he is doing these days:
1. He has had a runny nose and laughs when I suction his nose. Yesterday, he gave Andrew the suction bulb for him to suction his nose and has also tried to suction his nose by himself.
2. He can stack 4 blocks on his own.
3. He feeds himself with a fork and spoon and drinks out of a cup.
4. He claps for himself when he gets the food in his mouth on his own, or any other time he thinks he did something good.
5. He spins and spins and gets dizzy and falls down.
6. He shakes his head no and says nah, nah, nah nah.
7. He dances, taps his foot, claps his hand and slaps his hands on his lap to the rhythm of the music.
8. He sings.
9. He points to cars and trucks passing our car and says "cah" and "uck".
10. We were at the pediatrician's office and there were fish painted on the wall and he pointed to them and said "fiiish".
11. He loves opening and shutting doors.
12. He can climb up stairs and go down a slide all on his own, by turning onto his tummy.
13. Yesterday, at a restaurant he had ketchup and fries on a plate in front of him and he grabbed a french fry and dipped it into the ketchup and repeated this many times. Eventually, he just dipped his index finger into the ketchup and sucked off the ketchup.
14. He loves elephants and will dance and say "eeeehh" whenever he sees one or we sing the elephant song.
15. He helps us get him dressed by putting out an arm, putting his head through the shirt, sticking out his foot to put on a sock or shoe.
16. He likes to sleep on his tummy with his bum up in the air.
17. He puts cell phones up to his ears and pretends to be on the phone and tries to use a hair brush.
18. He loves riding in the shopping cart/cars at stores and also being taken for rides in his wagon. He loves to use the steering wheel.
19. He already likes playing with trains on train tables and understands that they move along the track. He also loves playing with cars.
20. He likes to jump onto his bean bag chair so that he sinks into the middle.
21. He loves nature and being in the woods and doesn't hesitate to get his hands dirty.
22. He loves any kind of drain or manhole.
23. He won't let anyone hold his hand or move his hands for him.
24. He doesn't sit still for story time at the library. He'd rather be socializing and running around and exploring. He does love the songs and using the "shakers".
26. He seems to enjoy playing with other boys and hanging around other adult men/daddies more so than other girls or women. He seems to already identify with being male and seems to prefer stereotypically male activities.

William is 16 months old today!
Hard to believe it, but William is 16 months old today!! He's growing and changing on a daily basis.
When I got home from Costco this evening, Andrew announced that William was scribbling on his own. He's been doing this for a couple of weeks now and getting better at it each time he tries.
William is RUNNING fast. He loves to run, run, run. He will just run for pleasure all around the house with a big grin on his face. I am also running and training for a few races that will be coming up this summer with the final goal being a half marathon. My friend, and marathoner, Steph, will be helping me train for these races. I am currently running four days a week for short periods. So far it is very do-able.
William has a bunch of words and loves playing Peekaboo Barn on my iPhone and pointing out trucks and airplanes and cars as they go by. He has been getting lots of play time outside at the local parks and loves going on the slides (he turns around and goes down on his tummy all on his own) and swings and also loves digging in the dirt and picking up rocks and visiting the ducks at the duck pond. He has always been such a nature boy. He had a great time at the zoo and loved seeing the elephants and flamingos and ducks and emus. Andrew even broke out his iPhone and played the elephant song from Barney that William loves so much right as we were looking at the real life elephants just to blow William's mind. Yes, my husband is a rockstar and techno geek all wrapped into one beautiful package.
His vocabulary consists of the following words:
Ivan ("Iiian"), Dog ("Dahg"), Rowan ("owan"), Gramma, Dadda, Mama, Car ("kaa"), Truck ("uck"), Duck, Baba, signs for "Drink" and "All Done", Elephant ("ehhhh"), Papa, No, More, Up ("puh puh" while smacking his lips) and more that I can't think of at this moment.
Poor William is teething again and seems to be having a hard time with getting his molars to come in.
Andrew is going in for a second interview tomorrow. Please pray, send positive thoughts that this interview goes well. It's a really tough time to be looking for a job.
As many of you know, it has been very difficult these last four months with Andrew being laid off and the economy taking a turn for the worse. We have been working very hard to figure out how to survive this and eventually thrive again. We're working on ways to fortify Andrew's career and credentials and I am planning on going back to work part-time this May as a nurse at my old job. We are excited about Andrew taking a 6-week PMP seminar to help him complete his PMP certification and he's seriously considering getting his MBA at UW with a Technology Management focus. The TMMBA program would start next January and would take 18 months to complete. He sits for the PMP exam after his seminar is finished this April. In addition, my mother has moved in with us and has been very helpful with taking care of William, cooking delicious meals and helping with house and yard work. She has offered to watch William on the days when both Andrew and I are at work and this will be a huge help at getting us back on our collective feet again.
I have been meditating, running, reading teachings by the Dalai Lama and practicing yoga to help me deal with stress and it has been a transformative experience. All of these activities are really helping me to have a fuller and more balanced life and perspective.
